Being a volunteer is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding things you can do. You have an opportunity to meet new amazing people and make new friends. Every meeting and event is a chance to open a door; it’s a chance for you to connect, share ideas and make a difference in your community.
When you start getting involved with community organizations you have a better understanding what that group is trying to accomplish. You become part of a group and you start to care about their success. It’s a good feeling to be included and be a part of the new and exciting things going on.
Lastly, it doesn’t cost you a penny to be a volunteer, just a few hours a month. It is one of the easiest things you can do and there’s always room for one more. It doesn’t matter if you are young, old, rich or poor, you can make a difference. So what are you waiting for? Get involved!
Here are a few opportunities in the Selah area:
1) Kiwanis Club of Selah – The Kiwanis Club of Selah has been around for decades and is responsible for organizing many well-loved community events. The goal of the Kiwanis Club is to enrich the lives of our local kids. Get involved in the community by becoming a Kiwanis member! The club meets at the Selah Civic Center (216 S. 1st St., Selah) on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 am.
2) Selah Community Days – The annual, hometown festival may not be until May, but planning for the weekend continues year-round! Community Days returns to downtown Selah on May 18–21, 2017, and the Selah Community Days Association is already looking for volunteers to help plan next year’s event! Visit www.selahdays.org to learn more.
3) Selah Downtown Association – I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention the amazing opportunities available to volunteer with your local Main Street Program. Selah Downtown Association is working hard to improve our downtown and support the local business community. There are opportunities to volunteer at events, or to serve on a committee focusing on downtown design, promotion or economic development. Email Whitney Stohr, SDA Executive Director, for more information at email@example.com.
