“Save Our Center” Campaign Brings New Banquet Tables to the Civic Center

In early 2017, Selah Downtown Association launched a new initiative called the “Save Our Center” Campaign.

 

The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness about the importance of the Selah Civic Center as a central, community gathering place — one that is used day-in and day-out by countless groups — but one that is also in need of support and continuous investment.

 

SDA also committed itself, as a community organization that benefits from the Civic Center, to raising funds and contributing needed resources. Volunteers with the organization encouraged other groups to participate and consider how they too benefit from the facility.

 

To raise funds, SDA held monthly Swap Meet events throughout the summer months. On November 28, using funds raised, and in partnership with C&C Catering, SDA donated to the City of Selah for use in the Civic Center 42 new, 8-foot banquet tables, which will be available for community use.

 

“Our mission as an organization is to improve downtown Selah,” said Whitney Stohr, SDA Executive Director. “The Civic Center is a hub of activity in the city and a significant asset. We want to ensure that the facility remains viable and used by the community for many years.”

 

SDA plans to continue the “Save Our Center” Campaign and hopes to continue sharing information about the importance of the facility and its continuing investment needs.

 

“Strong communities have strong centers and places where the community can gather,” said Stohr. “In downtown Selah, that place is the Civic Center.”
