The Senior Center in downtown Selah now has a new mobile, computer lab, thanks to grant funding received by Selah Downtown Association last spring from Yakama Nations Legends Casino Hotel.

SDA applied for funding for the mobile computer lab in January 2017.

The lab will remain in the Senior Center, located at the Selah Civic Center, and will be available for use by local senior citizens. SDA donated the full lab to the City of Selah for use exclusively in the Senior Center.

“The computer lab is a new and dedicated resource that we created for use in the Senior Center,” said Whitney Stohr, SDA Executive Director. “One of our goals as a Main Street Community is to increase the level of community engagement and that includes bringing more activities and resources downtown.”

The lab includes a mobile charging station, new laptops and computer accessories.

The City of Selah Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting Senior computer classes, utilizing the mobile lab, in the coming months.

“That’s really what we love to see,” said Stohr. “We want to see more activity downtown, more resources, more opportunities for people to get involved in the community.

“While it may seem like this is something small, all of the small changes and improvements that we can bring to downtown, add up over time. I think we’re starting to see that.”
